Privacy policy.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the Crater — AI Risk Intelligence Chrome extension, published by Sidetake (contact: hemang@sidetake.com). It describes how the extension handles your data.

2. What Crater does

Crater analyzes the AI tools and websites you visit and shows you a real-time privacy risk score for each one. All analysis runs locally in your browser. The extension ships with a built-in registry of AI tools and trackers; it does not fetch this data from a remote server.

3. Data we collect

None. Crater does not collect, log, or transmit any personal or browsing data to Sidetake or any third party. Specifically:

4. Data stored locally on your device

Crater uses your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) to remember things like:

This data never leaves your device. You can wipe it at any time by removing the extension or clearing browser storage for it.

5. Permissions explained

Chrome requires Crater to request certain permissions. Here is exactly what each one is used for:

activeTab and tabs

Read the URL of the tab you are currently viewing, so Crater can identify which AI tool or site you're on and show the right risk score.

scripting and <all_urls> host access

Inject Crater's scanner into pages so it can detect trackers, AI SDKs, and privacy signals. All scanning happens locally; nothing is sent off-device.

storage

Save your local cache, preferences, and dismissed alerts on your own device.

sidePanel

Show Crater's risk dashboard in Chrome's side panel when you ask for it.

6. Data we share with third parties

None. Because we don't collect data, there is nothing to share or sell. Crater does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data-broker services.

7. Children

Crater is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone of any age (see Section 3).

8. Security

All extension code is shipped by Google through the Chrome Web Store. Extension updates are signed and delivered by Google. We recommend only installing Crater from the official Chrome Web Store listing.

9. Changes to this policy

If we ever change how Crater handles data — for example, by adding optional cloud features — we will update this policy and notify users through the extension before the change takes effect. You will always have the choice to opt out or uninstall.

10. Contact
